Tiimo is the iPhone App of the Year 2025

Tiimo has been awarded the iPhone App of the Year at the 2025 App Store Awards, an honor given to only a select group of products each year. This post looks back at the learnings that have shaped the last decade of our journey.

What started as a research project has slowly grown into an iPhone App of the Year winner. Along the way, there were long sprints, a fair number of abandoned features, a few strategic turns, and all the joyful chaos that comes with building something new. For this article, co founders Helene and Melissa share the three biggest lessons from that process and how Apple’s technology helped bring some of those ideas to life.

About the App Store Awards

The App Store Awards spotlight products that offer clarity, care, and creativity. This year’s nomination signals a growing understanding in the wider tech landscape that planning tools can support diverse cognitive and sensory needs without compromising on quality or polish. It also shows that accessible design is being acknowledged as a marker of excellence and innovation. After a first nomination to the Apple Design Awards 2024 in the inclusivity category, which already shed light on the importance of inclusive design, the Tiimo team is deeply thankful and humbled to now receive this new recognition as App of the Year.

Learning 1: Surround yourself with people you like and who inspire you

Our journey was built on steady iterations rather than one defining moment. What made that possible was the mix of people behind Tiimo. The ones who question everything, the ones who bring grounding, the ones who think visually, the ones who think in systems, and those who think outside of it. You spend so much time with your team that their personalities and perspectives shape not just the work culture but the product itself.

Tiimo is built on lived experience and inclusive design, so you can plan, focus, and follow through in ways that actually work for you.

Learning 2: Good design should not be an afterthought

From the start, aesthetics and simplicity have guided us, shaped by the work of functional designers like Dieter Rams. Along the way, we realised that accessibility is complex and rarely universal, and finding the sweet spot between clarity and inclusivity has become one of Tiimo’s defining traits. If people use Tiimo every day, we have the responsibility to make the experience feel gentle, inviting, and easy to trust.

Learning 3: Question the traditional

Calendars, to do lists, and focus tools have followed the same formula for a long time. Our work with users, and the feedback they shared so openly, encouraged us to challenge that status quo. Designing for diverse cognitive needs led us to integrate focus timers into tasks, add small celebratory cues, and build subtle improvements that make it easier to stay organised.

From good idea to great product thanks to Apple technology

Building a startup teaches you that good ideas are only the starting point. What turns an idea into something real is having the right tools beneath it. Apple’s technology and distribution channels have played a huge role in shaping Tiimo into what it is today. By building Tiimo in SwiftUI and integrating deeply with the Apple ecosystem, we can offer Live Activities, Widgets, and Lock Screen features our users depend on. Our full design rewrite using Liquid Glass has also brought more clarity and calm to the interface.
Apple’s frameworks did not just support our work, they helped us turn a simple idea into a daily experience that genuinely helps people plan and focus.

A shared accomplishment: words of acknowledgment to the community

This award honors the individuals whose reflections and experiences have shaped the app. Their needs, challenges, and successes have driven the progression that brought Tiimo to this moment. The recognition belongs to that community as much as it belongs to the team building the product. To everyone who shared their experiences and trusted us with their planning challenges, thank you. Your insights and trust have played a key role in making Tiimo into what it is today.
We want to extend an extra special thanks to the Apple team for their trust and support to bring accessible design to more people.
